Atletico Madrid boss, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Diego-c11058 Simeone, believes the chance to qualify for the next round of the Europa League as toppers of their group will give his side the extra motivation they need to beat Viktoria Plzen.
Atletico are in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Czech-Republic-c2882 for their Europa League final group match encounter with Plzen. At the moment, Simeone’s men are on top of the group with 12 points and all they need to do tonight is to ensure that they don’t lose against their opponents and
that will be enough for them to win the group.
When asked about the significance of winning the group, Simeone said that coming number one is always better than being second best.
The Argentine is fully aware of the tough task awaiting his team. He believes their opponent’s danger is exactly what is motivating them to come away with all the three points.
“Being first is better than being second. We’re preparing to face the game in the best way. They’re a tough opponent, hard and fast, a menace. But that should give us the voltage needed to win the game.”
Meanwhile, the former Rojiblancos player was asked about the fact that he mostly uses youngsters and fringe players in this competition. He revealed that his main intention is to create a competitive environment inside the team.
The 42-year-old also believes that giving chances to every player in the club will decrease the burden on the key players since the club is involved in many competitions.
“First of all, we’re trying to be competitive in three tournaments. Apart from [Thibaut] Courtois, [Radamel] Falcao and Arda [Turan], almost everyone has played in the Europa League.”
Finally, El Cholo was asked about the comments made by the president of the club, Enrique Cerezo.
Cerezo claimed that he didn’t know about the coach of Atletico’s arch-rivals, Jose Mourinho. Simeone simply refrained from that issue and said that he only talks about what concerns him.
“I don’t get a say on what others say. I get to say only what I think.”
Having lost their derby match with Real Madrid on last weekend, Atletico will be hoping to avoid back-to-back defeats.
