  1. Not necessarily.  But, the demands of the job are great.

An avionics tech is enlisted, not officer.  And at some bases their shops are manned 24x7, others just days.  It all depends upon the aircraft and the mission.

Generally, if someone works day a official workday would start around 6:45 and end around 4:45.  That's official.  Normal is totally different.  He can work up to 12 hours a day, 7 days a week, if needed.  He can  also deploy for months at a time.  And then there are the shorter tdy's that are thrown in there with it.

A good man can balance the work and the family time, but it takes an understanding and supportive wife along side him.  If you are constantly going at him about coming home from work and what time will he be home, and why can't he make it to the school play, etc, you're just going to make it even worse.

My job is to video tape all of the special times instead of harass him.  Plan on him being late and then get excited when he comes home early!  Be grateful when he doesn't have weekend duty.  And help out children understand that through it all Daddy loves them!

  2. being in the military does not necessarly mean that family will miss out It is not an easy life and you may have to deal with deployments but that does not mean that your family will be hurting for it the military has many family events and suport groups

and as with any military job the dont go home till the job is done most of the time my husband is home by 8pm but there has been times he works till the next day

  3. During normal times the duty hours are not bad for most people and the military gives you thirty paid days of vacation per year. The problem is that for the past ten years the "doing more with less" factor in combination with still being involved in three different regions, Bosnia, Iraq, and Afghanistan at the same time has really stretched some parts of the military.  For the Air Force air transportability and all those jobs related to it being one of them.    This and the frequent deployments really have made it more difficult and harder on the military family as well as on some military members depending on what their job is.  There is no overtime and the military does not pay attention to weekends and holidays and operates 365 days a year.  While they do try to suspend operations or cut back some around major holidays it is not always possible.  On the other hand I also have seen some of the hours and work schedules that my civilian friends worked and I would not like working them much either.

  4. Well i can tell you military is not a 8am to 5 pm job but you always can make time for family. I cant talk for the air force but my hubby spends alot of time with me and he is busy working till 8pm sometimes.
