Being married?

What is the difference in paying off college if your married or single? I have been engaged and am putting off marrying because I have been told it will effect my finances with the colleges and will make it harder to pay for college. Something about dependency?

-Someone brought up the point that it will list my spouses income and not mine.

We are both full-time students so our income together is less than $6000 or so a year. My parents income is about $85k but I receive almost nothing because my dad sucks at finances and #$@#ed me over. My girlfriend also has a trust in her name for $250k though. So if I marry and claim dependence on my spouse instead of my parents, would this in fact HELP me??

  1. well in my school (and some other schools) give a discount on the school fees for married students. I go to BYU and honestly 30% of the students are married, they usually work part time and go to school part time so everything works out until they graduate and start making some real money

  2. list your stuff separately, talk to your financial aid office first, and the internal revenue service, each person's situation is different, I would see which way it would work better irs.gov          1-800-829-1040
