Is being tall an advantage in a fight? I know things like expirience, quickness, strength etc have to be taken into account but all other things equal does height matter in a fight?

  1. usually being tall will give you some advantage in MMA. For striking it gives you a reach advantage over shorter opponents.

In grappling it is easier to secure certain submission maneuvers. it gives you an advantage if you are on your back and your opponent is standing because then if is easier to do an upkick. The one disadvantage is if your opponent shoots for a takedown or goes for a leg kick, longer legs will give them a larger target area.

  2. yes when you have learnt how to use ur reach.

  3. I don't think it would matter much, but I think being small and petite could help, especially with agility. You could trick your opponent by darting all around them before going in for the attack :D

  4. Martial arts are not like a fight...bigger & stronger makes a difference in a fight.

Think of a martial artist like a mechanic. It doesn’t matter if you roll in a semi truck or a VW bug. They are both very work much the same in operation.

a martial artist will take his tools and goes to work. The size of what he's working on will not matter

    taller, shorter wont matter

  5. it really doesnt matter , if u come upto da chest of ur opponent u can do sum serious damage! that is if u have enough strength!!

  6. you have a slight advantage for striking

being that its harder to hit your head

and you probably have a reach advantage too

however in wrestling or ju jitsu

    you have the disadvantage

longer arms and legs means less force applied to make them hurt for ju jitsu

and the shorter you are to the ground the more balance you have, the taller the easier it becomes to take you down

  7. yes, being taller is an advantage in several ways. First taller means longer arms most of the time, so you have a reach advantage. Secondly it's easier to punch downward than upward. Punching up at someone makes your arms tired faster. Third and my faverite, if you are tall and on the thin side grappling is easier because the Kimura and triangle (one is an arm lock the other is a chock using the legs) you can google them if you wanna see, are hard to apply if your shorter than your opponent. But to tell the truth skill and the ability to think under pressure are more important.

  8. Height and weight has no advantages in martial arts. Being more physically fit and sharp on your moves will take down your opponent. We're not talking about wrestling.

My sensei told me when he was a kid, his "bigger-boned" wrestling friend and him would make bets on who could kick their a$$. My sensei would constantly take him down because eventhough he was a runt compared to his buddy.

  9. It can if the tall person isn't completely lanky and bony. In a physical fight, I think regardless of their height the person who is more fit and agile has the advantage.

  10. Like you said, all of those other thigns taken into account.  My opinion; for point sparring it would be, you could cover loads of ground with kicks and stuff with your long legs.  As for a real fight, well I suppose you wouldn't have to be worried of having a taller opponent.for shorter people it would be harder to reach your throat, to put chokes on etc.

    Hope that helped :]

  11. Your advantages depend on how you exploit them.  A tall man has reach in both arms and legs.  What really matters is the fight in you.  In the end it is what you do with  your arsenal that will determine your survival.

You can set people up and keep them out with your hands while setting them up for the big kick.  Again, this depends on you, how much fight is in you.
