Beiwen Zhang ousts Simone Prutsch to surge into quarter-final stage at Canada Open Grand Prix
Singapore’s emerging player Beiwen Zhang proved that her previous victories were not a mere fluke as she surged into Women’s Singles quarter-final after beating Austria’s Simone Prutsch in round-of-16 battle at the Yonex Canada Open Grand Prix 2012 in Canada,
on Thursday, July 12.
The impressive Beiwen, who is an un-seeded shuttler in Women’s Singles draw of Canada Open, was playing best badminton of her professional career as she showed superb performance and ousted her experienced opponent without any trouble.
The Singaporean lady started her run in an inspiring fashion and took the opening set easily. She maintained pressure on her Austrian opponent throughout the clash and ended it up in straight sets by taking just 23 minutes.
On the other hand, Simone was not expecting such a harsh treatment from her Singaporean opponent. She could not control the bird and also failed to take advantage of the loopholes of her rival. She remained quivering on court and eventually crashed out without
proving her mettle.
The spirited Beiwen started her campaign in opening set of first game in an elevated fashion as she controlled the pace of rallies easily and took a superb lead of 11-7 until the end of first half.
In the meanwhile, Simone could not produce finishing shots and remained struggling on the score board.
After the one-minute break, Beiwen remained calm and collected and she also pushed Simone in all corners with her impressive control over the pace of rallies.
The in-form Singaporean shuttler showed a strong character all the way to grab the first game with a surprising 21-10 score on the board.
In the second game, Simone tried live up to expectations by executing powerful shots but she failed to break the flow of Beiwen who was aggressive on court.
The Singaporean lady was on a different level as she managed an incredible lead of 11-4 until the mid-game interval.
After the break, Beiwen remained on track and did not let her rival to level the score. She easily bagged the second set with a four-point margin of 21-17.
The in-form Beiwen ended up this round-of-16 battle in straight games with a striking 21-10 and 21-17 margin on the score board.
