Belaetrix Manuputi stuns Sung Ji Hyun in 2013 Indonesia Open – Badminton news
Women’s Singles campaigner Belaetrix Manuputi of Indonesia alarmed all the contestants of Djarum Indonesia Open by performing exceedingly well in the opening round on Tuesday, June 11, 2013.
The main round draw put her against an experienced Korean shuttler Sung Ji Hyun who kept her busy on court for 72 minutes. Both contenders kept the audience glued to their chair till the final figures of 16-21, 21-16 and 21-19.
The Korean player, who was sixth seeded in this prestigious tournament, employed all of her experience and brilliance in the opening game and pocketed this valuable match point. However, she could not take this momentum in next sets and crashed out of the
event.
Meanwhile, Belaetrix Manuputi managed to stand tall despite of a severe blow in the opening game. She prevailed in ending two games and moved into pre quarter-finals.
The battle heated up when Ji Hyun unleashed a flurry of power packed strokes in the beginning of first set. She kept on playing with an authoritative approach and finished first half of the set with a respectable figure of 11.
She relished full benefits of this initial lead and won this crucial set with an overwhelming score of 21-16.
However, the story was entirely different in the following game as the Indonesian campaigner stormed back with a strong reply and tipped the scale in her favour.
This time Belaetrix did not repeat previous mistakes and kept her challenger at the lower end from very first stroke till the last one. She mounted pressure by piling up a respectable total before half time and the doubled the impact in third quarter of
the set.
She ruled the court in few back-to-back rallies and swept the table with an impressive result of 21-16. This timely win boosted her confidence and she marched into third set with an upper hand.
Belaetrix Manuputi did not lose focus in the establishing rallies and strengthened her grip over game with few valuable points. Her stunning performance confounded the Korean campaigner and she kept trailing behind on the points table throughout this set.
Belaetrix registered a concluding figure of 21-19 and qualified for the pre quarter-finals of Indonesia Open.
