Belarus retains home victory in the 2nd round of 2012 CEV Junior Volleyball Championship
The women’s national junior volleyball team of Belarus worked out a great performance in a home match, which took place on Wednesday night.
The “Olimpiets” sports hall in Mogilev hosted all the action, where Belarus launched authority on Lithuania 3-0 (25-19, 25-22, 25-16). More than 700 fans got together to witness the match.
It was the first match of second round of 2012 CEV Women’s Junior Volleyball Championship, which is currently underway in four European cities. Belarus is one of the hosts and is accompanied by teams from Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, France and Poland in
Pool A. The opening day featured a total of three matches, where Germany, Poland, and Belarus emerged as successful teams.
Volha Lazitskaya of Belarus topped all the scorers. She played as front row attacker and notched up match-high 19 points, which included sixteen winning spikes and two aces. Likewise, Nadzeya STOLIAR put up a good effort for home squad and added 11 points.
On Lithuania’s side, Karolina UVAROVAITE was the only player who went into double-digit scores. She struggled to defend her team’s position and contributed 10 points, in the failing effort.
The visiting team earned the first point of the match on an attack error but hosts quickly added a couple of points and went up. Lazitskaya and Nadzeya formed a great combo and came strong on neighbours. Team Lithuania caught up in the blues and lagged behind.
Eventually, the head coach of visiting team asked for the first technical timeout.
As the play resumed after the break, Lithuania attackers hit from different angles and produced convincing shots. The strong offence of guest team forced home squad to use the second technical timeout. In the game of hit ‘n’ run, Belarus remained ahead of
the guests and finally grabbed first set win, 25-19.
Ladies from Lithuania threw everything in attack in the following set and built an early lead on hosts. UVAROVAITE deserved most of the credit for Lithuania’s better status in second set.
However, she could not hold the tough competitors off for long and Belarus bounced back in the game. The home heroines wrecked the defence line of visitors and got better on the scoreboard. Despite utmost resistance from the Lithuanian team, Belarus captured
second set with 25-22 onboard.
With two sets in hand, Belarus sailed through the final flight of the match pretty easily. The hosts proved their supremacy on the court and closed third set (25-16), and announced 3-0 victory.
In the next run, the home team is scheduled to take on Poland on Thursday. The Polish ladies also captured their opening match against France. Poland will be much stronger competitor for hosts in the next match. The local rowdy fans are all up to see the
incredible action of volleyball. Check back for latest results and updates.
