  1. Yes.  You now need a passport to travel within the UK.

    I was shocked about it too.

  2. you don't need the passport because you're crossing borders, what you need is photo ID before you're allowed to use things like planes ... an airline won't let you fly without photo ID and the easiest form of ID is a passport ... I'm not sure what ferries would require but to be on the safe side, if you've got a passport, take it with you

  3. Copied this from the IPS website

    http://www.ips.gov.uk/passport/travel-ti...

    Travelling in Britain

    The Identity and Passport Service (IPS) is unable to advise customers as to when and where a British passport is required, as this is not a matter over which we or the British Government have any control. If you are travelling within Britain, we advise you check the requirements for the carrier that you are travelling with.

    So it depends on who you are flying with.

  4. You certainly won't be asked to present a passport on arrival, as it's a domestic flight (no different to flying from London to Newcastle, for example).

    However, as with all flights (including domestic ones), you will be asked to provide a valid form of ID before being allowed to board the plane, and this varies from airline to airline (so check first!) On Flybe, for example, any of these forms of ID can be used:

        * A valid passport

        * An expired passport (can be used on domestic flights for up to two years after expiry)

        * Valid photographic EU or Swiss national identity card

        * Valid photographic driving licence

        * Valid armed forces identity card

        * Valid police warrant card/badge

        * Valid airport employees security identity pass

        * A child on parent’ s passport is an acceptable form of ID

        * CitizenCard

        * Valid photographic firearm certificate

        * Valid Government-issued identity card

        * SMART card

        * Electoral identity card

        * NUS cards photographic (National Union of Students)

        * Photographic University/College ID card

        * Company ID cards of Nationally recognised companies (photographic)

        * Council issued bus pass (Senior Citizens only)

        * Pension book (as only acceptable form of non-photographic identification)

    Ferry companies may have similar requirements so again, if you're travelling by ferry, check the company's website before you go.

    Just one other thing: Ryanair (not sure about others) have a rule where you can use a driving licence as ID if you check in at the airport, but NOT if you check in online. So bear that in mind if you intend to fly on Ryanair and use your driving licence as your ID.

  5. it depends on the airline.....which photo id they're gonna accept....as from dublin you didn't need one but some airlines are asking for more than say your driving licence.....

  6. No you dont, both Belfast and England are part of the UK, Its the same as asking if you needed a passport to go from Liverpool to Cardiff

  7. No, you definitely do not need a British Passport.  Both Northern Ireland and England are in the UK.

    You do not need a passport for Eire / Southern Ireland either if you have a British Passport.

  8. I understand your confusion.

    Legally you do not need a passport to travel from Northern Ireland to England.

    However the Airlines (easyJet and Ryan Air anyway) have recently made it policy that they need photographic identification but they do not except driving licences so in essence you will need a passport as I cannot think of any other legitimate photographic I.D.
