Belgacom Spirou, Real Madrid and Maccabi Tel Aviv win – Euroleague Group C second week Review Part-1
During the second week of the Turkish Airlines Euro league, three games took place in Group C. Here is a brief review of the games:
Belgacom Spirou 80 - Anadolu Efes 79
Belgacom Spirou won their first game of the 2011-12 Euro League season by a single point, 80-79, over Anadolu Efes on October 26, 2011 at the Abdi Ipekci Sports Hall in Istanbul. Spirou and Efes now have 1-1 records in Group C.
Caleb Green led Belgacom with 18 points on 4 for 6 shooting from three-point range, grabbed four rebounds and stole the ball twice. Demond Mallet posted 14 points and grabbed five rebounds while Christophe Beghin ended with 13
points. Hamilton came off the bench with 12 points, including a clutch jumper with 11 seconds to go, followed by two crucial free throws, and seven assists.
Spirou’s Ersan Ilyasova poured in a game-high 21 points, including a 3 for 5 effort from downtown, and grabbed six rebounds. Tarence Kinsey added 14 points, pulled down six rebounds and stole the ball four times while and Sasha
Vujacic had 12 points and six rebounds for Efes.
Belgacom started off with good pace and held a 20-6 lead with four minutes to go in the first quarter. Anadolu punctuated five points in the closing minutes as part of a 9-4 run to trim Spirou’s lead to nine, 24-15.
Anadolu continued in the same vein in the second quarter and tied the game at 30 late in the period. However, Belgacom went on an 8-2 run in the last three minutes and held a six-point lead, 38-32, at halftime.
Efes bounced back again in the third quarter and decreased their deficit to just one, 57-56. Belgacom however received Green’s shot from downtown at the end of the quarter for a 60-56 lead going into the last quarter.
The fourth quarter proved to be a dog fight. Efes pulled off a comeback yet again and tied the scores at 76 with one minute to go in the final buzzer. However, yet again there were undone in the end moments of the frame as Hamilton’s
two-pointer and a pair of free throws that followed sealed the game for the Belgians.
Real Madrid 85 - EA7 Emporio Armani Milano 78
Real Madrid won their second straight game of the Euroleague season with an 85-78 victory over EA7 Emporio Armani Milano at the Caja Magica in the Spanish capital on October 27, 2011. With this defeat, Milano dropped to 0-2 in
Group C.
Jaycee Carroll came off the bench with a team-high 21 points on a perfect 4 for 4 shooting from downtown.  Rudy Fernandez paced the Spaniards with 17 points, four rebounds and four assists while Segrio Llull added 13 points and
four assists.
