Belgian International: Sashina Vignes Waran crushes Kristina Gavnholt in Women’s Singles semi-final
Sashina Vignes Waran of France showed a tremendous performance on court and managed to reach into Women’s Singles final after defeating Kristina Gavnholt of Czech Republic in the semi-final showdown at Yonex Belgian International 2012 on Saturday, September
15, in Belgium.
The in-form Sashina, who was sixth seeded player in the main draw, put up terrific show and remained successful in showing exit to Kristina who was the second seeded player in the tournament.
French shuttler worked really well on court from the opening points of the contest and managed to win the battle in straight sets with a reasonable score by taking 43 minutes on court.
The second seeded Kristina, in the meanwhile, played competitive badminton but failed to live up to the expectations and eventually went down against Sashina without showing her brilliance.
In the first game, the starting points were quite thrilling when both shuttlers kept the crowd engaged by playing at their best speed and no one could establish a strong position at the initial stage.
They employed impressive shots in all areas of the court and the score remained close from both sides remained until the end of opening half.
After the mid-game interval, Sashina tried to take advantage on score board by changing her tactics but she failed to live up to the expectations as her higher ranked opponent spared no room for her until the score reached at 20-20.
Both shuttlers played to their best speed at this crucial stage but it was Sashina who remained successful in wrapping up two straight points and won the set with a 22-20 score on the board.
In the second game, Sashina sailed smoothly as she did not face a tough resistance from her higher ranked challenger and grabbed a spectacular lead until the mid-game interval.
After the one-minute break, Sashina remained in command as she dictated the pace of rallies in all areas of the court and managed to end up the set in a dominating fashion with a 21-13 score on the board.
Sashina emerged as victorious in this Women’s Singles semi-final battle against Kristina with a reasonable margin of 22-20 and 21-13.
