Belgian Racing Driver Bertrand Baguette Not Interested in Formula 1
After testing with teams like Renault and Sauber last year, it seemed that Bertrand Baguette was interested in joining Formula 1, but the Belgian still insists that he is going to stay in the IndyCar Series, even after he was tipped
as being the favourite for Robert Kubica’s teammate at Renault last year; a slot eventually filled by Vitaly Petrov (he had also mentioned that he would love to make his F1 debut at the Belgian Grand Prix, his home-race.)
Bertrand Baguette recently stated that he is no longer interested in joining Formula 1 anymore and turned down the offer to drive at the post-season test sessions in Abu Dhabi.
“I have received offers to participate in the upcoming test in Abu Dhabi, but I don't care to spend our budget on a programme that I suspect will not lead to anything,” Baguette told a news agency.
This was rather...amateurish of Bertrand, as many drivers race and struggle to enter the Formula 1 and only the best drivers in the world drive in the sport. After struggling for just 2 years, Baguette decided to quit his efforts
and decided to stick with IndyCar Racing for the 2011 season as well. Bertrand should kiss his chances of signing with the FIA goodbye after these comments, since Formula 1 is all about determination and dedication. It seems that the Belgian driver wants the
FIA to spoon-feed him into the sport.
“Instead, I am focused on IndyCar, where I have the feeling I can build a career. I don't want to spend any more of my time looking for an opening in F1, where a driver who has proved himself in the lower categories is not given
a chance,” he added.
Baguette is just 24-years-old and he has a long way to go in the racing world. Since he believes that he has everything it takes to race in Formula 1, why didn’t he prove his point when he tested for Renault and Sauber last year?
Confidence is one thing, but overconfidence always drives a driver down the lane (pun intended). Instead of trying to improve his skills and prove to the Formula1 teams that he has what it takes to win a Formula1 race, Baguette decided to make such a strong
statement, vitally decreasing his chances of signing with any team in the sport in the near future.
