Belgian cycling federation planning new anti-doping initiative
Following the cycling’s biggest controversies throughout its history; all the cycling nations are trying their best to do as much as possible in order to clean the sport from doping abuse.
The Belgian Cycling Federation (RVLB) is the latest to join in the great cause, after its announcement to introduce a brand new action plan to prevent doping at all levels of the sport.
The National Federation is planning to work hand in hand with the regional organisations to keep a close eye at the issue and mainly to educate the teams, coaches, clubs, parents and racing organisers to have a clean sport.
The operation will be performed at all the local areas with its main focus on Wielerbond Vlaanderen and Fédération Cycliste Wallonie Bruxelles, or WBV/FCWB).
"Various preventive but also forceful measures will be developed, which depending on the powers by the federations will be activated," a statement said.
"The project will therefore be submitted to the boards of directors of both RLVB as WBV and FCWB, then the actions will be explained".
USADA’s long investigation into Lance Armstrong’s systematic doping exposed several culprits who used drugs to achieve the desire results and the American was leading the bunch, winning as many as seven Tour de France overall titles, he has now been stripped-off
from.
USADA released a 1000 word investigation into the American with recorded testimonies of several athletes and as many as 26 cyclists admit doping, 11 of them were Armstrong’s previous teammates.
Similar to the Belgian Cycling Federation, the Dutch Cycling Federation took the same measures earlier this month by forming an independent commission to fight doping.
"Doping has proven to be, in the past, the prevailing culture," the press release stated.
"Internationally and nationally in recent years major steps have been put in the anti-doping policy (whereabouts, blood passport, more and targeted controls). In recent years, the peloton has become cleaner".
The commission will begin on November 30 with its report expected to be completed by June 1, 2013 and the composition will be finalised by the Dutch Doping Authority and the sport’s governing bodies.
The Dutch World Tour side, Team Rabobank suffers the biggest loss after losing its major Sponsor, Rabobank which decided to part ways from professional cycling right after the release of USADA report against Armstrong.
