Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas has hailed the signing of Belgian midfielder Moussa Dembele, following the player’s goal on his debut for Spurs in the 1-1 draw against Norwich City.
The highly rate central midfielder arrived at White Hart Lane in a surprise move, just days before the transfer window shut down. Dembele is rated as one of the most effective midfielders in the Premier League, ever since he arrived from AZ Alkmaar two years
ago.
The player has impressed in his first full season in the English top flight with Fulham. Having joined the club from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/AZ-c38571, Dembele quickly established himself and managed a total number of 62 league appearances over two seasons.
The Belgian scored 5 goals for Fulham and linked up really well with American international Clint Dempsey, who incidentally has followed the Belgian to White Hart Lane.
Dembele has also enjoyed fine form with the Belgian national side, making a number of 40 appearances and scoring 5 goals for his country.
The former Fulham man completed a £15 million move across London to Tottenham, and made his first appearance in a Spurs jersey against Norwich City last weekend. Dembele came on as a second half substitute and scored an impressive goal, firing
a shot past Canaries' keeper http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/John-Ruddy-c18892.
Despite an overall dismal performance by the team, Dembele managed to impress and stand out, proving his quality and worth. The player is seen as a replacement for the recently departed http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Luka-Modric-c22857, who made a move to Spanish giants Real Madrid two weeks
ago.
Spurs had identified Porto’s Joao Moutinho as the ideal replacement for Modric, but there had been last minute delays in the paperwork and the deal collapsed. Dembele was brought in only hours before the transfer window shut down as a fall back option.
Villas-Boas has been highly impressed by the midfielder, and insists that he will fill in the gaping hole left by Modric’s exit.
“Moussa looked extremely good and it was a great finish," he told the club's official website.
"He's a player who has tremendous technical skills; very creative playing forward and he really improved our game in the second half.”
"He's a player we can count on for the season."
