Belgium & France?

I am spending a couple of days in Bruges (Belgium) and on the last day have to drive to Dunkirk to catch a ferry to the UK. Is there a nice town/city/village between the two places where I can stop and look around /have lunch for a few hours?

  1. Nieuwpoort in Belgium will be a good halfway point and right off the E40 motorway which is likely the road you will be driving.

    Try one of the following:

    Brasserie Cheers (http://www.brasseriecheers.be/home.php)

    In de Luwte (http://www.indeluwte.be/)

    De Kogge (http://www.restaurantdekogge.be/)

    Brasserie Sun Beach (http://www.sunbeach.be/intro.htm)

    Restaurant De Vagant (http://users.skynet.be/fa492299/)

  2. you have to go to ghent (gent), it's absolutely amazing, and i reckon it's nicer than bruges!! it's got lots of canals too, and those lovely gingerbread houses.

if you fancy france, lille is lovely too, and it's got good shopping

    enjoy your trip!

  3. It's less than an hour's drive from Bruges to Dunkerque by the motorway, so it might be worth a little detour.

Ostend (Oostende) is quite a nice seaside town, as is Blankenberge.

Or Ypres (Ieper) isn't too far out of your way - a couple of excellent WW1 museums, the Menin Gate, loads of nice restaurants and a couple of excellent choccie shops. Although if you've just spent a couple of days in Bruges, you probably won't need more chocolate!
