Belgium defeats Canada in third test of three-match series: 3-1 – Hockey Update
The Men’s hockey team of Belgium has emerged victorious over visiting Men’s hockey team of Canada by two goals, 3-1 in the third and final fixture of the three-match series in Brussels on August 9. Amazingly, the game was played under heavy shower but the
two teams showed outstanding play.
Robin D'Abreo, the head coach of Canada while speaking to the media expressed satisfaction over the performance saying that they had started the action in magnificent way. He stated, “We started pretty well in the first half, particularly in scoring the
first goal of the game. However, from that point on our performance was inconsistent, with the second half being quite poor on both sides of the ball.”
Adam Froese, the Canadian player also spoke about the crucial fixture. He was of the opinion that the sport quality was first class in Europe which will assist them in the forthcoming Pan American Games. He said, “The quality of hockey in Europe is first
class. This competition will only help prepare for the Pan American Games. We are working better together as a team, which will make a difference in Guadalajara.”
Despite making an impressive start, the visiting team of Canada failed to maintain its attacking status and they showed frustrated game in the later part. That was the point which helped the home team and took the game into their favour.
The Canadian men opened the game in quite dazzling way and carried out back-to-back attacks against the Belgian side. Soon, they were succeeded in their mission and earned maiden goal of the match in the 5th minute of the match. Matthew Guest
made solo run and entered through the defensive circle of Belgium. He volleyed an incredible shot into the backboard and opened the scoring for Canada.
The maiden goal impelled the home team to re-organise their game-plan in order to make a comeback into the match. In the 9th minute of the match, the Belgian men converted a short corner and made the results even at one-each.
Antoni Kindler, the custodian of Canada made an outstanding dive in the 17th minute of the match to clear the ball from the danger zone. In the 29th minute, the Belgian custodian showed brilliant defence and blocked a short corner to
keep his team in the game.
With seconds remaining on the clock, the Belgium team scored off a short corner and took a lead in the game. The visiting squad failed to remove the pressure and conceded third goal in the opening minutes of the second half. The host side converted a penalty
corner in the 41st minute of the mark and sealed the victory in the third consecutive match.
