Belgium defeats Team GB in second match of three match test series – Volleyball news
The second day of the three match test series between the Olympics qualified team of Great Britain and the Belgian men’s volleyball team took place on June 14, 2012. The city of Edinburgh in Scotland is playing host to the short series while the venue of
the matches is the Edinburgh University’s Pleasance Sports Complex.
The score board showed the following final set scores: 25-18, 25-20, 27-29 and 25-15.
The opening match of the series saw the Team GB fall to their counter parts by 1-3 and the pattern was repeated in the second match as Belgium scored another win over Great Britain by 3-1. Team GB was not well coordinated in the first two sets but they gave
a fair deal of competition to Belgium in the third set. However, the third set win seemed to take out all the energy from Team GB as they let the fourth set slip easily by.
The Team GB coach, Harry Brokking, expressed himself at the outcome of the match by giving the following statements, “It is difficult when we started with a completely new team after Tuesday and from the beginning we were struggling to find our rhythm with
all the substitutions. But we had to come out of it and we didn’t which was disappointing. But we had a good look at the players before we make our decisions. We saw in the third set when we brought players back that we had the organization back but we had
to keep it going in the fourth set and we didn’t.”
The first set saw Belgium take off with a 7-4 lead and had the advantage till 15-13. Eventually, the Belgium team began to pull up ahead and managed to bag the first frame at 25-18. The second frame also saw the Belgium team get the lead at 6-2 that extended
till 17-12. Team GB was left trailing behind with Belgium scoring another win at 25-20.
Team GB turned the tables in the third set by colliding head on with the Belgian squad and finally bagging a win at 29-27. However, Belgium rebounded and prevailed by taking hold of the fourth set at 25-15.
