Belgium v http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 World Cricket League Division Eight – Semi-Final – Match Update
A steady all-round performance from Vanuatu saw the team securing a comprehensive 83-run win over Belgium in the semi-final of the ongoing ICC World Cricket League Division Eight, played at the Faleata Oval No 1 in Apia, today on September 20.
The victory sees Vanuatu advancing to the tournament final, due to be played against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Japan-c2928 for the third-place play-off on the same date.
Vanuatu won the toss and elected to bat first, and despite the efforts of Belgium’s skipper Andre Wagener (10-0-66-4), http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Abdul-Rehman-c41625 (9-1-42-2), and Faisal Khaliq (10-2-26-2), the team was able to post a solid final total of 227.
Vanuatu’s top order remained fairly unremarkable, with openers Damian http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Andrew-Mansale-c44493 (18) and Jonathon Dunn (4) were both sent packing by Rehman, and by the 16th over,
Vanuatu were at 57 for 4.
However, the middle order managed solid contributions, with Nalin Nipiko (37) and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Patrick-Kaltaneaki-Matautaava-c80908
(48), and then a 75-run stand between Matautaava and wicketkeeper batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Trevor-Langa-c94359 (28).
By the time Matautaava was sent back to the pavilion by Wagener in the 46th over, Vanuatu were at 201 for 8, and some final contributions from the lower order – http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Adam-Voges-c925 Tari (3*) – got the team up to a
total of 227 by the end of 50 overs.
Vanuatu then went on to launch a bowling attack led by Matautaava (8.1-2-19-2), Nipiko (8-0-41-2), and Chilia (10-3-12-2), which succeeded in cutting Belgium off at 144, all out.
Aamir Iqbal top-scored for Belgium with 34, and the only highlights of the teams’ innings were a 3rd-wicket 41-run stand between opener http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jamie-Farmiloe-c66232 (16), and a 43-run partnership for the 7th wicket between Iqbal
and Mahesh Kristamoothr (19).
Aside from these batsmen, skipper Wagener (16) remained the only other player who managed to reach a double-digit score. The remainder of the batting order gave their wickets away cheaply, and Belgium found themselves restricted, all out, to 144 by the 45th over.
