“Belief was the difference”, Cesc Fabregas
It took two years for Arsenal to beat Chelsea in a North London Derby match. Arsenal lost to Manchester United 1-0, after Park scored a late goal in the first half of the match played at Old Trafford. Players, fans and experts started commenting that Arsenal
is not potent enough to beat top teams. However, they proved everyone wrong. Arsenal won 3-1 against Chelsea last night at the Emirates and that helped them to win a “make or break” crunch derby match. Arsenal gambled with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Johan-Djourou-c18779 and Theo Walcott, starting
in the game and both plans worked for the manager. Johan was superb in blocking http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786’s mean defence and scored a goal in the second half.
Arsene Wenger was jubilant after the victory and commented on the benefits of the three points by saying,
“It was a double impact. Mathematically, it keeps us in touch with the leaders of the league, and psychologically, it was important because we were questioned about our capability of winning big games.”
Manchester United is two points ahead of Arsenal and is due to play tonight against minnow teams. Manchester United is oozing with confidence and is unbeaten till now in this season. Manchester United is due to play against Arsenal at the Emirates, later
in the season and that might be a potential title earning game. Wenger said,
"It was a slow learning process that we got out of our system."
Arsenal kept performing well against the big teams. However, they could not thump the games when it was required to. Wenger told,
"I hope the victory [over Chelsea] will convince the team that we are moving in the right direction and we continue to improve."
Cesc Fabregas was one of the three goal scorers and the captain of the gunners said,
“Belief was the difference, the difference between a good team and a great team is very little. We did what a great team does. We were fantastic.”
In the match preview, Wenger stated that Fabregas is possessed with the thoughts of injuries. In the last one year the Spaniard had five hamstring injuries and he was not stretching his game. Last night Fabregas played fearlessly and controlled the game
from the midfield with his silky passes.
