Bell backs Giles' appointment – Cricket News Update
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ashley-Fraser-Giles-c46314 as the coach of the limited-overs side, claiming that the decision will benefit the team in the longer run as it will keep the coaching staff fresh and motivated.
Giles’ elevation has made plenty of headlines over the past week after the former English spinner became Andy Flower’s under study in the shorter versions. The approach is untested but offers the management reprieve in the face of a relentless cricketing schedule in the coming years.
Bell’s relationship with Giles extends not only from their time in the national team, but also due to their close ties with Warwickshire. Both were teammate, before the latter went on to become the county’s director of cricket.
His elevation was speculated before the ECB made a formal announcement after a mutual agreement with Flower, who has had to share extensive workload since getting appointed as Head Coach in 2008. The former Zimbabwean is also England’s director of cricket, and often has to devote extra time and energy to off field issues, most recent being the Kevin Pietersen-ECB stand-off.
It was reported that he had spent more than 60% of his time away from his family during the past five years, and given the absurdity of the fixture list, it became unsustainable for him to carry his day to day commitments with the national team.
His replacement has already made himself prominent in the eyes of the English hierarchy, having recently guided http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Warwickshire-c862 to the Division One title, following last-day heartache the previous year. Bell is convinced that having separate coaches is the right way to move forward.
"It is exciting for him," Bell said. "He has been fantastic at Warwickshire. In the last couple of years, with a couple of good signings as well, he's been able to turn the team into a really good side. He's created an environment where players can learn to do things for themselves. Hopefully, with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013, too.
"I see no reason why having two coaches won't work. Look at the fixtures: people talk about the players, but the backroom staff have to do every game as well. It's just as important to rotate those guys and keep them fresh as it is for the players."
