ok so bella is home and i ring council to check if they can give me any info off her microchip. I found out she is actually 8 months old not 5-6months which i did not beleive to be true. and not a big shock to me but she is also not a ridgeback cross. she is regestered with my local council as a pure american staffy. im not sure on pure but its wat i was thinking she was.

Now my question is can i trust a 8 month old am staff not knowing its history with my baby choc lab and more inportantly with my 7 5 and 3 yo children. so far she seems good, but she hasnt been made cranky yet either. I am in australia and we dont have to many "pit bulls" here from what i am reading am staffs and pits are the same breed just uk and us versions is this right???

Im a lil stunned the vet that had her did not check this info out for themselves and makes me wonder how hard they tried to contact the owners listed b4 handing her onto the uni to become a living pin cusion

  1. hEY SHE LOOKS LIK A beautiful pitty x staffy

i am from australia and I have a boy the same

    hes black and white though

there temperaments are a little funny as they get older but it depends how you treat them and nuture them also

Ours is 3 years old and is only starting to show a temperament becuase he is yet to be desexed.

I would give her a chance

  2. According to one breeder's information on the breed:

"Does best in a one-dog household - if you own more than one dog, never leave them together unsupervised. They have a high prey drive, so great care is advised.

The AmStaff is a discriminating, intelligent watchdog who is loyal and will protect his family. However, the AmStaff is generally friendly with friendly strangers, so is not considered to be a particularly good property guardian.

The pit fighting ancestors of the AmStaff were specifically bred not to bite humans, so their masters could safely handle them even in the midst of a dog fight. Therefore, though American Staffordshire Terriers have a tendency to be dog-aggressive, they are not generally aggressive towards people. Good with children, the AmStaff has a very high tolerance of pain, which allows the dog to tolerate more inadvertently rough handling from children than some other breeds allow.

As with all breeds, children should always be supervised with dogs and should be trained how to treat them properly." MOST IMPORTANT!

Also, it's a good idea to invest in obedience training. This breed can be very willful and requires a strong hand.

    Hope this is useful...

    Good luck!
