Belleville East boys volleyball team defeats O’ Fallon by 2-0 in the O’Fallon Regional final
The O’Fallon Regional final match took place on Wednesday. The two teams that were competing each other for the champion’s title were Belleville East boys volleyball team and O’Fallon.
Despite the fact that O’Fallon was playing with the added advantage of being in their home court, it did not give them enough fuel to bag a win. As a result, the Lancers tool the decisive match for themselves by winning it at 2-0.
Interestingly, the last time that the two teams met each other also resulted in a defeat for O’Fallon. However, that time around, O’Fallon had gone down with more fight in them than they showed in the final. As a disappointed pro O’Fallon crowd walked out
of the gym, the scoreboard gave evidence of a decisive Lancers victory by displaying the following final set scores: 27-25 and 25-18.
After having accepted the fact that his team had lost the final match, Coach Tim Gagen of O’Fallon made the following comments about the Lancers, “Belleville East is a very good team and there's a reason they were the No. 1 seed. They played very smart and
we could never really get the momentum on them. We had our moments where we played well, but we just couldn't get over the hump.”
Belleville East was able to assert their dominance by taking control of the game at 5-0 in the first set of the match. The Panthers tried to close in the gap but failed as the Lancers extended their advantage by taking the lead to 12-3. Despite being at
such a huge deficit, the Panthers managed to push ahead and eventually reach a tie position at 22-22. The set got intense as each team struggled to bag the opening set of the game. However, the team that was finally able to win at 27-25 was the Lancers.
After the first set, the second one came easy for the Lancers as they set the tone by taking the lead at 10-5. Eventually, the Lancers were able to seal the deal by winning the second set at 25-18.
The next match that the Lancers are scheduled to play is against Edwardsville. The contest that is a part of the Belleville West Sectional will see the Lancers matched well as the performance statistics of both the teams are almost equal.
The number of times that the Lancers have been able to bag a win for themselves in this season so far total to be 21. These victories have been scrapped off while suffering losses that tally at four. In comparison, Edwardsville have been able to secure
themselves a higher number of wins that are 22 in all. Also, the number of times that they have registered a defeat stands less than that of the Lancers as Edwardsville have fallen only one time.
