Bellucci/Falla defeat Huss/Kunitsyn 6-0, 6-3
Thomaz Bellucci of Brazil and Alejandro Falla of Colombia thrashed Australian/Russian pair of Stephen Huss and Igor Kunitsyn in straight sets in the first round at the Farmers Classic in Los Angeles on Monday. The Brazilian/Colombian
duo allowed their opponents to win just three games in the entire match, claiming a one-sided match 6-0, 6-3 in just 50 minutes.
Bellucci and Falla were flawless in the opening set as they did not drop even a single game, breaking their opponents three times to win the set 6-0. The Brazilian/Colombian team kept their first serve percentage at 56 percent
and hit a couple of aces in the first set. The unseeded duo converted three of the four break points they received in the opening set.
The Brazilian/Colombian pair carried the winning momentum into the second set and needed just one break of serve to win the set 6-3. Bellucci and Falla fired 65 percent of the first serves and grabbed the same percentage of first
service points in the second set. They converted five of the fourteen first returns into points in the second set.
Bellucci and Falla are slated to face Colin Fleming and Ross Hutchins of Great Britain or Bahamian/Belgian pair of Mark Knowles and Xavier Malisse in the quarterfinals.
Berrer/Haas beat Blake/Sweeting 6-1, 6-4
Michael Berrer and Tommy Hass of Germany cruised past Americans James Blake and Ryan Sweeting in straight sets 6-1, 6-4 to move to the quarterfinals. The match lasted for just over 50 minutes.
The Germans crushed their opponents in the second set as they broke Blake and Sweeting in the fourth and sixth game to capture the set 6-1. Berrer and Haas served quite well, smacking 81 percent of the first serves and winning
76 percent of the points on them. The German combination also won 75 percent of the second service points and 30 percent of the first return points in the opening set.
The second set was much more competitive than the first set as both teams held their serve in the first four games to take the score to 2-2. However, Berrer and Haas managed to break the Americans in the fifth game and held their
serve in the next game to go ahead 4-2. They served out the set at 6-4. The Germans saved the only break point they faced and won one of the two break points they received on Blake and Sweeting’s serve in the second set.
Berrer and Haas will take on Yen-Hsun Lu and Frank Moser or Scott Lipsky and Rajeev Ram in the quarterfinals.
