Question:

Belly fat and swimming?

I heard that swimming is a full body exercise, and it exercises all parts of the body. This year, I signed up to take swimming as my PE. If I swim for about 40 minutes a day, 5 days a week, how long will it be until I start seeing results? Will my belly appear to be smaller within the first month? Will I see results at all?

And if I decide to join my school's swim team, I'd attend all the afterschool practices, which are 5 days a week for an hour. How long will it be until I see results then?

If you're going to answer, I'd really appreciated it if you answered both parts. Thank you

  1. Well, my friend, you heard right. Swiming is a full body exercise- and probably one of the best exercises known to man.  If you ONLY swim for 40 minutes a day/5 times a week, it may take about 3 1/32 to 5 weeks to really start showing definition in the muscles.  Really, it depends how hard you work and how much lactic acid you create while swimming (but don't forget to WARM DOWN! It is very bad for your body to have lactic acid pool and sit in you for a long time.)  If you join the swim team (which i recommend), you mich start to see results at around 3-4 weeks.  20 extra minutes won't make a significant impact on result visibility and how early you'll see it.

If you want to see results sooner, I personally suggest that you pair up swimming with another work-out routine.  For example: swim for 40 minutes to an hour and then after that take a run around the block, or swim and lift weights, work wiht a medicine ball, etc.  That way, if you don't work certain muscles hard enough while swimming ,you'll work them with the complimentary exercise.
