Belmont Stakes, Animal Kingdom, Shackleford, Nehro rivalry heats up
Shackleford won the Preakness Stakes and smashed Animal Kingdom’s chances to win the Triple Crown.
While Animal Kingdom was looking good and was expected to clinch the Preakness Stakes after winning the Kentucky Derby. The stakes couldn’t be higher in the Grade 1 Belmont Stakes and it’s going to be an exciting race.
Shackleford the chestnut colt arrived in the Big Apple on Monday 30, 2011 at 10 a.m. Trained by Dale Romans for owners Michael Lauffer, and, W.D Cubbedge, who also arrived in New York to see how Shackleford is doing ahead of the race.
The chestnut colt was sired by Forestry, had five starts this year with two wins and a single second place, which indicates that up till now he has had a good run and his owners and trainer would love him to cross the wire first in the Belmont Stakes
On the other hand, Animal Kingdom’s sire Leroidesanimaux, was a Brazilian bred multiple-graded-stakes winner in North America.
Pedigree is an important tool to measure the potential of a horse and Animal Kingdom has proven so far that he has star potential.
This year Animal Kingdom had four starts with two wins and twice he was the runner-up, and winning the Kentucky Derby makes him a real contender for the Belmont stakes.
Trainer, Graham Motion, believes that Animal Kingdom will be one of the favorites to win the Belmont Stakes and he wants Animal Kingdom to become the 12th horse to win both the Kentucky Derby and the Belmont Stakes and be part of the 11 horses,
who have managed to do that in the history of the Triple Crown.
Trainer, Dale Romans, is excited to see a bit of rivalry in the 3-year old division and how things are he couldn’t have asked for a more balanced and stiff competition.
In addition to Shackleford and Animal Kingdom, Nehro (second in the Kentucky Derby), Brilliant Speed, who came 7th, Santiva, and, Stay Thirsty, will be taking part at Belmont and all of them did not take part in the Preakness Stakes after running in the
Kentucky Derby.
The Preakness Stakes runner, Mucho Macho Man (sixth), is the only Preakness Stakes runner, who will possibly take part in the Belmont Stakes, and, Isn’t He Perfect, who came ninth in the Preakness Stakes, is likely to start in the Belmont Stakes.
Alteration, Awesome Patriot, Harlan’s Hello and Prime Cut are likely to start in the Belmont Stakes, the longest and oldest race in the Triple Crown.
