Belmont Stakes, Curlin, Hard Spun??

Question

Wo\ithout a program in front of me, it looks as if the Belmont will be all Curlin and Hard Spun.

Both ran huge races in both the Derby AND Preakness, and now have to run 1.5 miles.

Could a fresher horse (Tiago, Rags to Riches?) Pull off the upset??

I can't wait to see the outcome of this Belmont! It really has shaped up to be a great race, even without Street Sense. I have been a pedigree bettor for years, and this is the first time in a long long time I don't have a favorite. Looking over all the pedigrees they all look to be able to go the distance.

Rags to Riches has a superior pedigree, and if she wins her Dam (BETTER THAN HONOUR) would be the 1st to throw 2 winners of the Belmont. With Jazil being her first winner. I LOVE Curlin's pedigree, Smart Strike was one of my all time favorite Canadian runners (and is now coming into his own as a sire). I have no doubt he will make the distance with ease, I do wonder when he will regress though. I have liked Tiago from the first time I laid eyes on him... his sire Pleasant Tap ran anything from sprints (2nd in 1991 BC Sprint) to being 2nd in the 1992 BC Classic. He stayed sound running until he was 5. But he is a little inexperienced, on the other hand if Curlin can come so far in such a short time why not Tiago?

So, like I said I can't wait to see the actual race; and I will say a small prayer before the race that ALL of them come in safe and sound.

I left out Slew's Tizzy! A son of Tiznow... winner of the BC Classic TWICE. And a great- grandson of TC winner Seattle Slew. If he had more experience on the dirt I'd put him at the top of my list, but his career so far doesn't tell me much.

you know I bet on Curlin in the Derby and he lost then I bet on Street Sense in the Preakness and he lost...Different tracks and conditions vary for these races and I would say Curlin has a chance but then I said that at the Derby too. Distance has something to do with it but the horse and track can really surprise you. No triple crown but at least we will see who takes it and lets just hope they don't loose a horse like they did Barbaro. That is all that matters really. Maybe not to the money hounds but to the people that really love these beautiful creature it does. Also some bets are on Slews Tizzy. Good Luck if you bet....I say Curlin but then I lost both race bets. These races don't pay as much either so a lot of horses are not entered into these races .

Rags to Riches could win if Curlin and Hard Spun lock horns too early.  I think Tiago or even Imawildandcrazyguy could make some noise late in the race.  I would say Curlin-Rags-Tiago-Hard Spun is the most likely scenario, but anything can happen in horse racing--a cliche, because it's true.

Exactly as you explained, I think that although Curlin' and Hard Spun seem to be the clear favorites, I am taking Rags to Riches, who was only at 3-1 odds originally.  Also, he is much more fresh that the other two front-runners, and has a leg up on them because he has been primarily focused on the Belmont Stakes, while the other two already participated in the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes in Baltimore.

Anything is possible! Yes,Tiago,Rags to Riches or one of the others could pull off an upset.It should be a very exciting race.

I think Curlin is going to be hard to beat. I think if anyone could pull off the upset it will be Imawildandcrazyguy.

I strongly doubt if Hard Spun will even finish in the money!

You have to remember that he finished second in the Derby (1 1/4th mile,and third in the Preakness (1 3/8ths) - WHICH WAS A MUCH SHORTER RACE!

He will make it around this 1.5 mile track OK but will be far behind in the Pack!

Better Bets would be on Tiago (10/1),  Rags to Riches (3/1), and for a  decent "Show" bet put your money on  I'macrazykindofguy, and Tizzy Slew.to really upset the Apple cart both at 20/1!

Ought to be a helluva of a great race!

I think Curlin will win (who cares he will not pay ) Rags to riches ,if your in for the money and a Cinderella story! SHE is a filly ..... And is half sister to Jazel. She has a fantastic bloodline and is one to watch! As far as Hard spun I think he will start well but quickly loose wind.
