Belts. I have recently bought new belts and when I installed the green light only comes on

I have recently bought new belts and when I installed the green light only comes on sometimes and I can smell rubber burning. The last belt broke very quickly so I am assuming that when I put the vacuum back together I am doing something incorrectly. Can you help instruct me?
