Ben Ainslie dominates on Day 3 in Finn class: 2011 Weymouth and Portland International Regatta
Great Britain’s Ben Ainslie regained his winning spirit at 2011 Weymouth and Portland International Regatta at Weymouth Bay on Day 3 of the regatta. He clinched third and first place in the two races of Day 3 of Finn class and retained his overall lead of
the standings with 18 points after six races.
The weather conditions were strong, as 18 to 22 knots offshore winds blew over the racing area with heavy shifty gusts throughout the day. The 27-boat Finn fleet was put to the test by the breeze and they had to work on a new strategy to tackle these conditions.
The first and overall fifth race started under a black flag on Weymouth waters. France’s Jonathan Lobert took the fifth race sailing sensibly under hard conditions. Ainslie finished third in the fifth race and went on to grab the sixth one with a superb
sail across the Weymouth Bay. Netherlands’ Pieter Jan Postma, who ruled the second day with two first places, couldn’t do well in sixth race and finished ninth.
