Ben Ball of Trinity Western becomes Canada West Male Athlete of the Week – Volleyball news
The Abbotsford, B.C. native Ben Ball has been named the Athlete of the Week by the Trinity Western University of Canada.
He concluded his TWU career by collecting a pile of accolades in the season. He completed five seasons with Trinity Western Men’s Volleyball Team and immensely contributed to the overall success of the team.
Ball played at the position of the setter and put duty and responsibility to his role. In acknowledgement to his terrific work, the TWU honoured him with the ‘Athlete of the Week’ award. Overall, he ended his TWU career with one Canadian Inter-University
Sports (CIS) silver medal and two CIS gold medals. Furthermore, a Canada West conference championship also falls into his credits.
Most recently, the Trinity Western men’s volleyball team pulled off success at the finals of Canadian National Championship. The TWU was challenged by Laval University in the most influential final match, which was played at Queen’s University in Kingston,
Ontario on Sunday. The Spartans proved to be better in every aspect of the game and easily dismissed the opponent, 3-1. Ball staged an eye-catching action on the net and remained the centre of attention throughout the game. He was named the Most Valuable Player
(MVP) of the final match as he led TWU to its second national title.
Overall, Ball notched up 103 assisted in the tournament. He recorded a hitting percentage of .458 against Dalhousie in the quarterfinals. Likewise in the tournament semi-finals against hosts Queen University team, he hit with .366 per cent and led the team
to finals. He gave his best shot in the final match against Laval and recorded a hitting percentage of .400, which played a big role in team’s success.
TWU’s Head coach Ben Josephson complimented Ball by calling him the engine of the team. He congratulated him on winning the award and commented, “His unassuming attitude on the court and ability to find the fun in any situation make him the perfect setter
for our team. His genius with the ball and athletic ability make him the most memorable setter in our program's history.”
