Ben Campbell and Mathew Perry to be part of the Asia-Pacific team at Sir Michael Bonallack Trophy
New Zealand have now come up with two of her best amateur golfers, Ben Campbell and Mathew Perry, who will be representing the Asia-Pacific region in the upcoming Sir Michael Bonallack Trophy in Portugal.
Established on the footings of the infamous Ryder Cup, the Match Play event boasts of two 12-member teams, hailing from Europe and the Asia-Pacific region and the event is played every two-years.
Campbell and Perry, both have done well in the past season on the New Zealand amateur circuit and are almost on the verge of turning professional in the coming season.
Perry said, "It means a great deal to me, to be selected in such a unique tournament is an honour. It's a fantastic opportunity for exposure in that part of the world as I know the Europeans hold this tournament in a high regard too".
Meanwhile Campbell added, "It's a great honour to be selected for such a great event. I can't wait for the experience and look forward to competing. It's always great to play against the best players in the world so will be a great experience to play match play against them".
Campbell also revealed that his game has been going through several ups and downs since the previous season and has now taken up a swing change strategy to cope up with the crisis.
Sir Michael Bonallack Trophy is resuming after a lapse of four years when it suffered a surprise cancellation due to the gigantic ash cloud triggered due to massive volcanic eruptions in Ice Land, which thereby, disrupted the air traffic worldwide.
It was scheduled to be staged in India in 2010. The first day of the Match Play event will feature five foursomes and five four-ball matches as the teams finally head to the individual rounds on the final day.
The Monte Rei Golf and Country Club, one of the most revered Jack Nicklaus designs in Portugal, will be the venue of the event, overlooking the scenic Mediterranean.
The conditions are likely to be hot and humid and players are expecting grainer greens which will pose resistance to soft putting.
