What do you think of Ben Cousins? Should he or should he not return to football? Why?

I'm just interested to know as my whole family goes for the Eagles including me but I am wanting to know if you guys thought that he got the punishment that he deserved...

  1. My family are huge West Coast supporters except me, I support St. Kilda but still have a soft spot for West Coast being my 2nd favourite team.

Ben Cousin should be allowed back in if he has learnt to take responsibility for his actions and will never take drugs like he did again. It is a shame he had to blame it on his past because that is barely an excuse. I feel though everyone deserves a second chance and even though it was very wrong for him to do it in the first place he knows the consequences. Also he is a very good footballer and the Eagles know it. If you were taken away from the one thing you most loved in life I think you would be pretty upset, like him. After all with losing his fionce and his job so someone could put him straight, he's been through a lot.

It's up to him now. No more chances- If he trully loves football, he will do the right thing.

  2. he is a criminal

he has broken the law but the law in Australia is a joke, what punishment a free holiday over seas now he is back on the night club circuit again

  3. Hmm. I have great respect for Ben as a player, but very little as a person and as a public figure. I heard one psychologist or something describe him as suffering from "terminal adolescence". I think that's a pretty good description. Hes, what, 30 now? And he still acts like he's 17. First there's the whole drink-driving fiasco that lost him captaincy (though I think Judd deserves it more anyway), and then this. He's embarrassed his club, his fans, and the sponsors. And the fans. After that, you could not get past a supporter of another team without a snide comment about how "eagles are such druggies" or "they played well, but do you think he would've played as well without his cocktail of performance-enhancing drugs?"

I don't know if he's gotten the punishment he deserves, and who knows, maybe one day he'll turn it around and set himself up as an example, sort or like a "i could get through it, so can you" kind of thing. My concern is not really with the punishment, but with it ever having happened. I really think Ben needs to grow up and get over himself.

That said, I'm an eagles supporter, and although I'm not a big fan of Ben, he's still one of my boys and I won't hear a word said against him.

  4. Not into sports

  5. Drugs are rife in the entire community, sporting clubs included. Drugs impact ALL sporting clubs in some way, no exceptions! whether it's the players themselves taking them or a family member or friend, officials or fans, drugs are there somewhere, have no doubt. Benny took the hit for all of them and got dragged through the s*****r along the way. IMO most of the media covering this story and AFL in general are pathetic alarmist dogs with Demetriou, that sad little man, Craig Hutchison and the twisted hatefilled germ, Caroline Wilson, about the worst of 'em. Ben's a bloody champion and WILL be back playing soon and rightfully so. I expect a much deserved redemption for both he and the rest of West Coast to come in the form of much deserved pain and punishment for the other 15 teams in the comp.

  6. I'm a Pies supporter although, I actually like Ben Cousins. I think he's an awesome footy player and he deserves to return to the game. I think he has alot of talent and he's enjoyable to watch. My family disagrees with me and thinks that he doesn't deserve to return as he should be a good role model for kids, but I think society is so hard on footy players to be perfect. Footy players get a h**l of alot of pressure put on them.

I agree with you about how he has done so well to overcome his problems. So wishing Cousins well when he returns playing!!
