Ben Crane, Tim Clark, Bubba Watson withdraw from Cadillac Championship - Golf News
Ben Crane, Tim Clark and Bubba Watson have withdrawn their entries from the $8.5 million World Golf Championships-Cadillac Championship on Thursday after encountering fitness issues.
Watson did make it to the Blue Monster with flu and he did not intend to pull out of the tournament until the last minute. A day earlier, he told Ian Poulter at the practice range that he had the flu but despite that, he was ready for the tournament. He
even tweeted, “My whole body aches, but tomorrow & Friday will be ok because there is no cut!”
However, only a few hours before the commencement of the tournament, he walked over to the officials and told them that he was unfit to play. Later that day, he tweeted, “Just got back from the doctor’s office! I will be ready to go next week."
Meanwhile, Ben Crane who played superbly in the Accenture Match Play Championship, pulled a rib muscle during the tournament and had been experiencing recurring pains ever since. The 35-year-old American remained adamant about competing for the title but
failed to fight through the pain. He too withdrew before the start of the Thursday round. The player played extremely well in the first leg of World Golf Championships, where he destroyed Rory McIlroy in the second round, when he won eight holes against him.
In the next round against Miguel Angel Jimenez, the American injured himself, which hampered his game and he walked out of the tournament as a quarter-finalist.
On the other hand, Tim Clark had been fighting Tendinitis in his right elbow and had not played since the second round of the Sony Open, where he was tied for the second place. The South African experienced a shooting pain during the first round of the Cadillac
Championship, which forced him to pack his bags and fly home.
With the trio out, the field has been reduced to 66 players but this does not mean that they will not collect their share of the prize. According to the rules, the trio will be honoured with the last-place prize money, which they can donate to any charity
of their choice.
