Ben Crane fired an eight-under par 64 in the second round of the Wells Fargo Championship to share the third place on the leaderboard on Friday, May 4, 2012.
Crane is currently two strokes behind the leader Nick Watney, who also registered the same score at the Quail Hollow Country Club.
Through eight holes on the front nine, Crane was six under, accrued of four birdies and a spectacular eagle.
The highlight of his performance on the front nine includes a consecutive run of birdie-birdie-eagle, starting from the third hole.
Thereafter, he carded a par putt followed by another two birdies, coming consecutively on the seventh and eighth hole.
“When I eagled the 5th hole, chipped in from the other side of the green there, just a great momentum boost, and another eagle chance two holes later,” he said. “And then birdied 8. From that point on, I thought, gosh, I'm having a great day”.
While playing the back nine, he again made a good run as he started off with two back-to-back birdies on the 10th and 11th holes. The only bogey of the round came on the 17th hole.
“I just played solid all day,” he said. “Some of the putts that I could have lipped this way or that way lipped in, and I just felt very comfortable really and just was hitting my lines with the putter. These greens are so good. If you get the ball on line,
you've got a great chance of making some putts”.
Crane told the PGA Tour’s website that he will not be practicing much in the evening, as he prefers to take some rest and enjoy some time with his kids.
In the meantime, the 14-time major winner, Tiger Woods, had to leave the field of the tournament after missing the cut, as he carded a one-over par 73 on Friday.
The cut line was made at one-under par and Woods was having an equal-par score at the end of Round 2.
This is the first time Tiger Woods missed a cut during the 2012 PGA Tour season.
