Ben Crane tied for lead in Malaysia
Ben Crane and Thailand's Pariya Junhasavasdikul are the current leaders at the CIMB Asia Pacific Classic in Malaysia after the conclusion of the second round.
The pair are 11-under-par for the tournament after the American shot a flawless round of seven under today, the day's best round, at the Mines resort in Selangor. Junhasavasdikul couldn't quite match Crane, the Thai, who is largely unknown outside of the Asian Tour, shooting eight birdies but also a pair of bogeys to come home six-under.
Junhasavasdikul, a business graduate and licensed pilot, has nonetheless given himself a fine opportunity to finish as top gun here, as he battles for the $1million first prize on offer - and he delighted the crowd with a strong finish, five of his birdies coming over the final seven holes.
The 26-year-old claimed his first Asian Tour victory just a few weeks ago at the Mercuries Taiwan Masters, and will be keen to add to that debut win as quickly as possible. Not that Crane, a three-time winner on the PGA Tour, wouldn't relish the opportunity to claim his first overseas win.
Ryan Moore and first-round leader Ricky Barnes were tied for third place on 10-under, after Barnes could only manage three birdies and a bogey to finish two-under today. Best placed of the Europeans was Sweden's Carl Pettersson, who shot three-under today to go nine-under for the tournament and currently occupies sole fifth place.
The USA's DJ Trahan, Australia's Adam Scott and Englishman Luke Donald make up a three-way tie for sixth place on eight-under, while among those in ninth place on seven-under include the up-and-coming Rickie Fowler, three-time major winner Ernie Els, Scotland's Martin Laird and Englishman Brian Davis.
