Ben Curtis commits to play the CJ Invitational hosted by K.J. Choi
The 2003 British Open winner Ben Curtis has been added to the published field of next week’s CJ Invitational hosted by K.J. Choi, at the Haesley Nine Bridges Golf Club.
The American will join South Koreans Charlie Wi and Bae Sang-Moon in the second edition of the US$750,000 Asian Tour event.
“I am delighted to announce that we will have three very talented PGA Tour players in Ben Curtis, Charlie Wi and Bae Sang-moon competing in the CJ Invitational next month,” Choi said.
“Ben has enjoyed a wonderful career since his stunning victory at the British Open. This season, he has been a model of consistency where he won in Texas and produced several other top finishes,” he added.
“Charlie and Sang-moon have also enjoyed great seasons in America, especially Sang-moon being a rookie on the PGA Tour”.
The tournament is set to have a huge boost with Curtis’ participation in the event, as he is currently enjoying a great form on the US circuit.
Earlier this year, he recorded a victory in the Valero Texas Open and followed that with a tied second-place finish at The Players Championship.
Bae, in the meantime, is also a good addition to the tournament this year. He is no doubt one of the best players South Korea has ever produced.
From 2007 to 2009, he recorded a single victory every year on the Asian Tour. In 2011, he surged to the top of the rankings in Japan by adding three titles to his resume in a single year.
This year, he made a strong move on the PGA Tour and recorded a second-place finish at the Transition Championship after losing to Luke Donald in the Playoffs.
In the meantime, the seven-time Asian Tour winner Wi is also having a great time on the PGA Tour this year. He has recorded a total of three top-five finishes this season, including a second-place finish at the AT&T National Pebble Beach Pro-am.
Overall, the tournament is expected to be a hit this year because of many prominent names participating in the event.
Thaworn Wiratchant and Gaganjeet Bhullar are the other big names who have already confirmed their participation in the event next month.
