Ben Curtis confident for another good start at the Memorial Tournament
Ben Curtis, the winner of this year’s Valero Texas Open, is set to make another good start at the Memorial Tournament, scheduled to start from May 31, 2012.
Curtis entered the 2012 PGA Tour season with a conditional status and he had to rely on the sponsor exemptions to participate in the events.
This was the first time in his career that he had to worry about his status on the PGA Tour since he first received a five-year exemption following a win in the 2003 British Open.
He listed 149th in the 2011 PGA Tour money list that asked him to do something or lose the status of playing on the tour for 2013.
However, he is now fully exempted to play the events on the tour this year along with the upcoming two seasons.
"I never lost faith," Curtis said. "I knew I was capable. I just think if you work hard you never know when those good things will happen. I'm finally just now seeing the results. That's golf; that's how it works”.
Following his win in the Texas Open, Curtis has been amazing with his game. He finished at the 13th, fifth and second position, respectively, in the last three events he played.
It has been six years since he recorded his last victory at the Booz Allen Classic in June 2006.
Therefore, a victory this year came as a surprise as well as brought lots of pleasures for him to enjoy.
"That win is a life-changer for him, really," Ricky Elliott, Curtis' caddie of two years, said Wednesday at the Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin. "The way he is playing, he can keep on going. If he hadn't had that win and lost his card completely next
year, God knows what would have happened. So it's really a life-changer for him. It's a career-saver".
He is now upbeat about his performance at Memorial because of the brilliant form he is enjoying this year.
He has recorded a total of two top-10 finishes this year, which marks the second best of his career. He managed to register five top-10s in 2008.
