Ben Curtis expecting a huge crowd Haesley Nine Bridges Golf Club this week
Ben Curtis, the winner of the 2003 British Open, is set to participate in the CJ Invitational hosted by K.J. Choi, slated to start from Thursday, October 4, 2012.
Curtis confirmed his participation last month and was one of the biggest additions to the tournament this year.
The US$750,000 event will be played at the Haesley Nine Bridges Golf Club, featuring some of the best players from all over the world.
KJ Choi, who is hosting the event, will also be a part of the field. This will allow him to become the fourth player in the history of the sport to tee off in self-hosted events.
Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer and Tiger Woods are the other three players who compete in their own tournaments, including the Memorial Tournament, Arnold Palmer Invitational and Chevron World Challenge, respectively.
In addition, Choi will also become the only Asian Player to host an event that is co-sanctioned by the Asian Tour and the Korean Golf Tour.
According to Curtis, Choi will succeed in attracting a huge crowd to come and watch the world-class players competing against each other live on the course.
Talking to the Asian Tour’s official website, he stated that Choi has a great fan following in the United States. This week, he will be playing in Asia. Therefore, one can expect galleries full of spectators in Korea.
“Obviously K.J.’s going to have a huge fan support here. He does in the US as well but being coming from Korea, he’s going to have a pretty big following and it’s going to be lots of fun with the fans rooting for him,” Curtis said.
Talking about his own fitness, he said that he took three weeks off, which helped him to a great extent in refreshing his mind and body.
“I feel great. I had three weeks off and my body is feeling pretty good, well-rested which is key and I’m looking forward to a great week,” Curtis said.
When asked about the course conditions, he said that the layout seemed really beautiful and favourable for the players. Therefore, he is expecting to post a good score on the leaderboard, when he tees off on Thursday.
“The golf course is in good shape, the weather is beautiful and I don’t have any excuses if I don’t play well,” he said.
