Ben Daley to stay with the Reds until the end of 2013 – Super Rugby updates
Ben Daley has signed a new two-year contract today with the Queensland Reds that will prolong his Super Rugby career with the squad until the end of 2013. The deal has come out at a very crucial time as the Reds are taking on the Melbourne Rebels a couple
of days later.
Daley joined the Queensland Reds in 2008 as a rookie and has been playing for them consistently. He has also played for Australian U20 during his short rugby career so far. He grabbed the attention of selectors at an early age and participated in every match
of the last Super Rugby championship.
Daley had been planning to leave for England to continue his legal education but in the end he decided to stay with Australian derby. He has not given up on his educational aspirations but he certainly has delayed his intentions.
Ben Daley confirmed the news of his new deal and said that he was enjoying his playing time with the Reds and it was the reason he refreshed the contract. "It's good to get it signed and sealed and delivered. It's something that is at being back of your
mind. It's good to have a resolution. Queensland is on the cusp of great things and I want to be a part of that. Ewen's created a great environment here. That's all you can ask for as a player”.
He added that he has always tried to perform his best in the field, which had paid back. He further said that there were plenty of teams looking for him across the border but he preferred to stay with his home side team. He added, "There was an opportunity
that arose overseas. When these things arise, you can't help but have a look at them. But I'm happy with the way things are at the moment."
The Queensland Reds coach, Ewen McKenzie, appreciated the decision of the young Daley and said that his new contract would boost the number one conference in Australia. McKenzie applauded his services and said that Daley has a great learning ability that
will take him to further successes in the future.
Daley was tested as a skipper of the Reds during the trail matches and he proved himself a future leader of the side. The Reds lost their previous match as he was ruled out of the contest due to a nose injury. The team management is hopeful of his comeback
in their next clash of Super Rugby on May 6th.
The Reds have been placed on 3rd overall position in the ongoing Super Rugby whereas they are topping the tables among their domestic sides.
