Ben Fisher drawing closer to his exit from Hull Kingston Rovers - Rugby League News
Ben Fisher of Hull Kingston Rovers is hoping for an emotional farewell from his franchise after Saturday night’s game at Craven Park, when he will walk out of his final game with Rovers.
Fisher is amongst the players of Rovers, whose contracts will not be renewed after the end of this season and feels honoured to be part of the franchise which shifted to the Super League games.
While speaking about his time with the club, Fisher added,“ I think I've a right to say myself, Scott (Murrell), Jase (Netherton), Macca (Makali Aizue) and Webbo (James Webster) are part of the reason Hull KR are as successful as they are now. Without the
boys who did the job back then, you wouldn't have the big names at the club now. I've spilled blood for this club and that's going to be tough to walk away from but I'll walk away happy and proud knowing the club is in a better position than it was when I
arrived. It's definitely going to be emotional for me on Saturday. This place has been really lovely to me, it's been a home away from home.”
Sharing his views about his departure from the club, he counted himself amongst players who he reckons are the reason for the magnitude of success enjoyed by the Rovers these days. According to him, if these key players were not part of Rovers back then,
club’s standing would have been entirely different today.
Fisher also added that his long term association with Rovers will be hard for him to let go on, but he will depart much happier because he feels that the franchise’s financial health along with quality of game has improved by leaps and bounds, comparing
to what it was.
Fisher was contracted in with Hull KR in 2006 from Halifax. His term at the franchise has been a very rewarding one. This reflected in his contract which was renewed in 2008 when he was offered an extension until the end of 2011.Unfortunately, he will have
to depart club as he has not been offered the extension the second time.
