Ben Foden happy at a chance to say goodbye to Mike Tindall – Rugby News Update
Ben Foden, the 26-year-old England and Northampton Saints fullback is set to feature against the Barbarians at Twickenham on Sunday, before they embark on a three-match test tour of South Africa, which will also see England play two other mid-week games.
However, England's match against the Barbarians will tip the team against their former captain, Mike Tindall, the 33-year-old former Centre who fell out of favour with Stuart Lancaster, the head coach of England, after the disastrous 2011 Rugby World Cup.
Tindall fell out of favour due to his behaviour at the World Cup, where he was caught on CCTV camera with a blonde woman during a night out in Queensland. He was fined £25,000 and dropped for England’s quarter-final match against France.
Foden has expressed his view on the situation stating that as an international player, one has to be careful of their behaviour and they are in the public eye constantly.
"You have to be on your guard a little bit," Foden said. "Having guys like Tins being involved in the squad, who is married to royalty, and guys like myself being engaged to a pop star (The Saturdays' Una Healy), the public profile rises and you have to
be careful.”
He did say that he is excited to play against the former captain and the player himself will be geared up for the crucial match.
Foden said, "Tins will be looking forward to coming here to Twickenham and sticking it to us. It will be good to see him playing and a good way to say goodbye to Tins as well - hopefully we will stuff them."
Tindall was an important part of the England squad that won the 2003 Rugby World Cup, and played for his country a total of 75 times, starting 71 of those games, while coming on as a substitute 4 times. He made his test debut against Ireland at Twickenham,
on February 5, 2000, and played his last international match against Scotland at Auckland, on October 1, 2011.
Foden has shot a warning shot to all his colleagues and have told them to be on their best behaviour during the tour, as people can take pictures or make videos at anytime.
