Ben Foster happy with life at Birmingham
Birmingham goalkeeper Ben Foster is delighted to have a regular run of games at his new club.
The former Watford man has been in excellent form this campaign, following his move from Manchester United, where he spent the last three years warming the bench, leaving him to plummet
from being one of England’s most highly-rated keepers, into a goalkeeper who now has to prove himself at the top-level once more.
Foster feels he has been given a new lease of life in the Midlands, and is clearly enjoying being a part of the first team setup. "When you can finally settle into a team and know you
are playing first-team football and are an important part of the team, it is a good feeling. People say I look full of confidence, but it really is just from playing first-team football, knowing you are needed and wanted. It's a feeling I've not really had
for a good few years and I'm loving every minute of it as well," Foster told the
Press Association.
His confidence and general sharpness clearly took a knock whilst not getting any game time at Old Trafford, but now he will be looking to follow in the footsteps of current England No.1
Joe Hart, who spent a year on-loan with Birmingham last season, catapulting him from promising keeper, into one of the finest goalkeepers in the world. If Foster gets a similar run in the side, which it looks as if he will, then there is no reason why he can’t
be challenging Hart for the coveted England No.1 jersey.
Despite shaky moments whilst at United, where his confidence hit an all-time low, Foster’s time on-loan at Watford between 2005 and 2007 showed what an outstanding keeper he is when playing
regularly. He was never going to get that luxury at United with Edwin van der Sar still there, so his move in the summer was the best thing for all parties.
