Ben Henderson: My greatest sorrow is collecting an inch-defeat against Anthony Pettis – UFC news
Ben Henderson, one of the most prolific lightweight brawlers in Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), recently revealed that his life’s greatest grief is collecting a loss against Anthony Pettis, a defeat that was just by an inch despite of the fact that
he threw all his life and soul in the skirmish.
Ben, the ultimate submission specialist, might have his eyes sealed at UFC 144 engagement against lightweight champion Frankie Edgar but at the back of his mind he is still aggrieved at losing the bout to Anthony Pettis, a defeat that relinquished him from
his WEC lightweight title.
While sharing his views in an interview with MMAfighting.com, the 28-year-old brawling expert said that he still is unable to scrap the pain and grief inflicted by that defeat off his heart and mind. Henderson, infamous as the ‘Smooth’ or ‘Bendo’, remarked
that though he lost his title on that sorrowful night yet he is not stressed at losing the gold.
Ben commented that the facet which disturbs him the most is the fact he threw each and everything in that bout, it was the most tiresome brawl of his career even then he lost the brawl and not by a huge pile of score but just by one or two points. Smooth
said that it was an awful experience of his life and he considered it as an example to boost his motivation for future engagements.
The current number one contender for Frankie’s lightweight title said, "I'm still not over it. I won't lie to you. I still get teary-eyed thinking about it. It affects me deeply to this day. It will affect me for the rest of my fighting career, for a long,
long time. I'm very upset about it still. I can put it behind me, but am I totally over it, never think about it? No."
While sharing his gloomy feelings Ben revealed that the night he was standing against Anthony, he delivered large number of kicks and punches but the only aspect that took him down was his ‘backing off’ every now and then. It must be kept in mind that Ben
collected the scores of 48–47, 48–47, and 49–46. Bendo said that since then he has watching the brawl again and again and learns what mistake he made which eventually led him collect the closest loss of his life.
When asked whether he wants to clash Pettis again, Ben strongly replied, "I will say this: before I retire, before I leave this earth, I will see Anthony Pettis again in the cage."
Ben is currently scheduled to take on Frankie Edgar and will headline the UFC 144 pay-per-view which will be on aired from Saitama Super Arena situated in Japan on February 25, 2012.
