Ben Henderson vs. Frankie Edgar scheduled for UFC 150 – UFC News
Frankie Edgar is scheduled to face Ben Henderson in a rematch for the UFC lightweight championship at UFC 150 on Saturday in Denver. This will be Edgar’s second fight of 2012 against the same opponent, Henderson.
Earlier this year, in February, Edgar lost his title to Henderson in a close decision at UFC 144 in Japan. The fight was an interesting and close one, and most analysts gave Edgar the decision. However, according to the judges, Henderson was the winner.
Now, Edgar finally has the chance to avenge his defeat.
“I’m hungry for every fight whether it’s a title fight or a non-title fight. I want to go out there, perform well and win,” Edgar asserted, adding, “Last time, I wasn’t the victor, so it definitely gives me the motivation to go in there and get some redemption.”
It should be noted here that Edgar is considered as the rematch ‘king’. Whenever he has stepped into the ring to avenge his defeat, he certainly has achieved the milestone.
Considering his performance at UFC 144, it can be said that the match will be as close as the previous one. Even Henderson feels pressurised by Edgar’s rematch. In fact, he agrees to the fact that Edgar always bounces back in rematches, considering it a
major threat for his title.
“We know he’s great in rematches. His coaches are great and he has a great game plan for rematches with finding weaknesses and holes,” said Henderson who currently stands with 16 wins and 2 losses in portfolio.
Surprisingly, Edgar believes this time he has no advantage over Henderson in the rematch. Edgar, who currently stands with 14 wins, 2 losses and 1 tie in his portfolio, believes Henderson will be as good as the first fight.
“There’s really no advantage. I was in there with him, but he was also in there with me. With rematches, there’s two sides to them. You get to find out what your opponent is all about, but your opponent finds out what you are all about,” Edgar added.
Since both of them are of the same calibre, Edgar believes timing will matter most in the octagon.
