Despite not being certain about finding a place in Australia’s playing-11 for the first Test against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 at Brisbane, Ben Hilfenhaus, the seasoned fast bowler, is still very optimistic and is not too fazed by the selection matters.
The first Test of the three-match series starts tomorrow between two of the cricketing giants. The competition is going to be keenly followed all around the world, with the number one Test ranking at stake.
The Kangaroos have selected five specialist bowlers in the 12-man squad for the first Test, which includes http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Nathan-Michael-Lyon-c78822. Because of a greenish pitch at the GABA, the Aussies are pondering over
playing an all-pace attack. However, Hilfenhaus is likely to miss out if http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MJ-Clarke-c1978 and company decide to opt for Lyon.
The 29-year-old cricketer however, believes that being selected in the team or not is uncontrollable for him and the team management has the right to chose the best combination, which they believe is going to help the Kangaroos win.
“I don't see it as fighting for a place,” Hilfenhaus expressed. “The conditions are what they are and the selectors have to make a decision on what they want for the conditions, what make-up they believe will win a game of cricket.
You're never comfortable being left out. All I can control is my preparation.”
Since making his international debut in 2007, the right-arm seamer has played 24 Tests, 25 One Day Internationals and seven T20s for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746, having picked up 130 scalps at the highest stage of the game.
Hilfenhaus, who has been playing a lot of limited-over cricket recently, played just one first-class match this season, which was against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Australia-c844 earlier this month, picking up a couple of wickets in each innings. Bowling long
spells in competitive cricket has helped him prepare for the series against the Proteas.
“It's actually nice to be able to run in and try to bowl the same ball twice, rather than worry about bowling six different deliveries. It was nice to get back in the groove [during the Sheffield Shield match] last week,” he added.
