Ben Martin picking up some pace as he moves along the Web.com Tour
The Clemson University graduate, Ben Martin, is preparing to pick some pace during the second year of his professional career. He is currently a rookie on the Web.com Tour after spending the last season on the PGA Tour.
While talking to the Web.com Tour website, he said that he was not worried about the final results of any event that he played. In fact, he is mainly focused on working hard and bringing improvements in his game.
In the 2012 season, he made a total of 11 starts so far and missed the cuts six times. He picked some pace at the Mexico Open Presented by Banamex and tied for the 21st position, followed by another top-25 finish in the Preferred Health Systems Wichita Open.
Last week, he tied for the 51st place at the United Leasing Championship at Victoria National Golf Club.
"I got off to a slow start and for the most part I was playing OK but I don't know if I was rusty or what," Martin said about his early season on the Web.com Tour. "I wasn't getting it in the hole".
"The approach I've taken this year is to do more work at home and not wear myself out during tournament weeks," added Martin, who lives in Greenville.
"I want to be committed to working out hard, working hard on my game when I'm home so when I get to an event it's not such a grind and I can just go out and play".
Martin believes that the 2011 PGA Tour season did not go well as he wanted, as he missed the cuts 13 times in the 25 events that he played. In addition to that, he finished 153rd in the FedEx Cup standings and 164th on the money list.
According to the Web.com Tour stats, he is ranked 12th in driving accuracy with an impressive percentage of 73 in hitting the fairways.
On the other hand, he struggled with his putter early in the season. However, he now believes that his putting has become better in the past few months through continuous practice and training.
