Ben McGrane and Roz Allen of Netley Sailing Club win RS800 Inland Championships - Sailing news
Team of Ben McGrane and Roz Allen representing Netley Sailing Club performed tremendously well in their run on Rutland Sailing Club waters to claim RS800 Inland Championships title with six points. The 31 boat RS800 fleet gathered at Rutland and was greeted
by many new faces and great weather conditions.
The fleet started sail holding on the standard windward leeward course under the winds blowing over the racing area from 10 to 16 knots, along with some sunshine and 15 degrees temperature which was not bad for racing in the month of October. Having a sail
at Rutland with a trip around the outer loop and to cross the finish line under such conditions was something a little different.
Despite the race officer used much of the space available, the first race finished in 25 minutes with the speed of an 800. Four laps were duly posted for the rest of the weekend. Netley Sailing Club’s Ben McGrane and Roz Allen made a welcome return to the
fleet with 1, 1, 2 on the first day and dominated the fleet at the conclusion of the day’s racing.
Nick Charles and Chris Martin picked up 3, 10 and a race win in the third to finish second overnight on Day 1. Andy Jefferies and Allyson Ody clinched two second finishes but a 14th in the third, which was not in their favour and they tumbled down at number
three spot.
Wind conditions were almost identical to Day one on Day 2, except that the weather was just a little colder. McGrane and Allen carried on where they left off on the opening day and grabbed another two bullets to take the event before a race to spare, which
was eventually a discard but the pair did not take it easy and finished third in that.
Jefferies-Ody and Charles-Martin battled for second podium which ended in the former’s favour and they claimed the second spot with 11 points followed by Charles and Martin on third with 19 points.
The overall standings at the end of the event are given below:
1. 1163 Ben MCGRANE, Roz ALLEN, Netley Sailing Club 1, 1, 2, 1, 1, (3) = 6 points
