Ben Obomanu to replace Sidney Rice as Seahawks get ready for Eagles – NFL News
Ben Obomanu is proving to be a regular backup-starter for Seattle Seahawks as he is once again set to fill in for an injured player. This time he is going to replace injured wide receiver Sidney Rice in the week 13 game of the
National Football League current season against Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday.
During the last week defeat against Washington Redskins 23-17, Rice suffered from concussion. Seahawks’ coach Pete Carroll said on Tuesday that the chances of Rice’s participation in the game on Thursday were ‘very slim’.
Rice had already missed two games at the beginning of the season owning to an injury. This season, he has played nine games and recorded 32 receives for 484 yards with an average of 15.1 yards per receive. He also has two touchdowns
to his credit.
Replacing Rice is Ben, who also made up for the former when he missed two games at the start of the season. Not only that, Ben also started when Mike Williams was unavailable.
Although Ben has played all the 11 games this season, he is called to start the game whenever anyone is injured. He fits in so well that he becomes the first priority of the coach, who thinks that the player can do everything on
the field. The coach is counting on him saying that the player has got versatility.
Ben has 28 receives for 295 yards with an average of 10.5 yards per game this season. He has also scored two touchdowns.
“He’s just what you’re looking for,” coach Pete Carroll said. “He gets it. He’s working really hard. He understands everything. He’s adaptable to the positions and the different aspects of the positions – whether you’re asking
him to block, or go down field, or make the tough catches inside. He’s just grown into a real favourite of ours because he’s so flexible.”
Meanwhile, Ben has said that he has prepared himself for playing at every position and is now looking forward to make start against Eagles.
“You have to learn every position and utilise the opportunity that may come when anybody goes down or a situation presents itself,” Ben said.
Seahawks are ranked second in the National Football Conference West division with four victories and seven defeats.
