Ben Parker fights with illness during the M2M Russian Challenge Cup
Despite suffering from illness throughout the first two rounds of the M2M Russian Challenge Cup, Ben Parker fought hardly and remained in contention, heading into the final two rounds, at the Tseleevo Golf & Polo Club.
Parker felt pain close to his appendix on Wednesday and was taken to the hospital for a complete check-up. He visited three hospitals prior to getting complete medication.
While talking to the European Tour’s official website, he confirmed that he was accompanied by a translator throughout his visits to the hospitals.
He told that the staff did not speak to him because of the language difference. Therefore, he did not know what was happening there.
Later, he came to know from his translator that the doctors were planning to put him on drip. However, they changed the plan and advised him some medicines in the end.
“It all happened on Wednesday night, I was up all night and feeling ill,” said the 25-year-old. “They don’t really know what it was, I was in three hospitals. They were scared about my appendix so nobody was really sure”.
The medicines failed to relieve him from the misery and he played the opening round in pain. According to him, he did not want to miss the tournament, especially after travelling long hours to Russia.
The opening round witnessed him post a decent score on the leaderboard, a two-under par 70.
“I missed the bus on Thursday and I was dizzy all day but I really didn’t want to pull out,” he said. “To shoot two under was unbelievable really. I just didn’t think, I just wanted to get through so I played alright. I even had black-outs and missed a foot
putt and didn’t even notice I missed it”.
He followed his opening round by a three-under par 69 on day two, for a five-under par halfway tournament score and shared the fifth position. He now trails the leader Alessandro Tadini by just three strokes, heading into the weekend.
In the meantime, Adrien Bernadet, Florian Praegant and Joachim B Hansen joined him, after posting the same scores on the leaderboard.
