Ben Peterson put Scotland into the final of Euro Hockey U-18 Championship II
Ben Peterson, Greave Clydesdale's striker, once again shined for Scotland as the Scottish junior boys defeated their Polish counter-parts by 1-0 in the first semi-final of the Euro Hockey U-18 Championship II, which is being played at the Hockey Stadium,
Via Goldoni, Cernusco sul Naviglio, Milan, Italy, on Friday July 15.
The Scottish juniors had to fight a tough battle against the Polish juniors who played a much undisciplined hockey due to which they were shown two green-cards along with four yellow-cards during the match. The Scottish juniors tried very hard during the
entire match, but the solitary goal was scored in the later part of the second half. The first half remained goalless in spite of some wonderful moves by the Scottish juniors.
In the first half Scotland came across their first scoring chance, when Corey Hasting made a shot at the Poland’s goal-post, but the shot was easily saved by the polish goal-keeper. In the remaining part of the first half, Scotland created some chances,
but failed to convert them into goals. The match was goal-less at the time of interval.
In the opening moments of the second half, Scotland almost scored their opening goal, when Peterson directed a pass towards Hastings in the scoring area, but a diving effort from the later went in vain as the shot was stopped by one of the Polish defenders.
After that Scotland were awarded a couple of penalty-corners, but still remained unlucky as both the penalty-corners were missed, one by Craig Falconer and the second by Ross McIntyre. However, the Scottish boys eventually succeeded in breaking the Polish
dead-lock in the 57thminute and the scorer was Ben Peterson.
Peterson was also the star performer for Scotland in their previous match against Ukraine in which the Scottish juniors outclassed their opponents by 5-1 by dint of a sensational hat-trick.
The Scottish juniors will now be up in front of Austria, which defeated Switzerland by 4-2 in the second semi-final. The final of the tournament is going to be played on July 16 at the same venue.
