Ben Revere and Michael Young can remove worries of Philadelphia Phillies’ offence-MLB Update
Inclusion of Michael Young and Ben Revere can go a long way in removing offensive woes of the Philadelphia Phillies.
The club was betrayed by the offence in the last season. The poor shows from the part of their batters affected the performance of the whole team.
As an outcome, the Phillies went through their worst season in the last half a decade.
Understandably, the fans of the club are bursting out against the management for such a subpar show. They are heartbroken after losing their pride of winning a series of Division titles for the last five years before 2012.
It was a disheartening moment for them when the Washington Nationals claimed the glory of Division title this year.
They are pressurising the team for bringing about immediate improvements in the club.
The repeat of what happened in 2012 during the upcoming season is the last thing that they want. Aware of the fans’ backlash, the Phillies are taking this offseason seriously.
They are trying their best to ascertain all the weak-links are detected and addressed before the season starts.
The addition of Ben Revere and Michael Young underlies their concerns and shows how desperate they are to reclaim their lost crown in the Division.
It also reflects their awareness of the biggest reason of their collapse during the 2012 season.
By all accounts, the absence of their experienced campaigners such as Chase Utley and Ryan Howard for the greater part of the last season led to their offensive meltdowns.
They did not have strong bench strength that could offset their impact and keep the team from being affected badly due to the disappearance of Utley and Howard from the line-up.
Keeping this factor in mind, the Phillies this offseason have not only added reliable regular players for the infield as well as the outfield, but they have also strengthened their back-up staff.
It is a great sign moving ahead and entering into the next season with a confidence.
Young boasts credentials of spearheading the whole offence of the Phillies, just as he did with the Rangers for all the years he played for them.
Once he starts connecting well at the plate, he is hard to stop regardless of the oppositions he comes across.
Over and above, his defensive capabilities are equally worth mentioning, especially because he can man almost all the positions within the infield.
The presence of Revere in the team is no less significant, considering the fact that he has amazing offensive Major League stats.
Phillies general manager, Ruben Amaro Jr. has acknowledged Young in the following words.
"Michael brings a lot to our team, not just on the field, but off it as well," Ruben Amaro Jr. said. "He has been one of the premiere hitters in the American League for a decade and is someone who has a tremendous presence in the clubhouse. We couldn't be
happier that he has accepted the assignment to come to the Phillies."
It will be interesting to see as to what extent these two batters make the difference to the Phillies’ campaign for the 2013 Major League season.
