Ben Sheets not remorseful for leaving Milwaukee Brewers in 2008 - MLB Update
Ben Sheets explains his sudden outage from the season back in 2008 when he was one of the most reliable pitchers for the Milwaukee Brewers. His absence from the team was demoralising for the Brewers’ fans because the important games were about to start and
he was supposed to play a major role in them.
Regardless of what the fans felt, Sheets is not regretful as he believes it was beyond his control.
He has clarified that his arm was not in a position to deliver anything and that if he had continued it was to be counter-productive for the team.
After the season, Sheets went through a lengthy rehab process.
As far as his entry in the current season is concerned, he was acquired by the Atlanta Braves in order to fill a spot on the rotation. The fact the Braves have performed tremendously well in the season encouraged the management to fix loop-holes in their
rotation before the post-season.
Due to the injuries to some of their starters, Sheets was brought in the Majors by Atlanta.
Credit goes to Sheets as he immediately fulfilled the role that the management wanted him to perform. He recorded wins for the team and gave an impression that he is going to help the Braves immensely during the crucial games ahead.
Unfortunately his shoulder inflammation led the Braves to put him on the Disabled List.
Currently he is trying to convince the team officials of his ability to throw quality innings so that they bring him back on rotation again.
Answering the questions that he was asked on reaching Miller Park, Sheets has justified the decision of leaving the team in 2008. His arm had made him helpless. It was nearly impossible for him to keep throwing for the Brewers.
“I don’t think about it, but I’ll get asked about it, and that makes me think,” Sheets said. “Really, I wasn’t bitter or mad or anything. It just — that was what the arm said I had. The arm was done. Regardless of what I wanted or the team wanted, there
was nothing else in there. There was nothing left to give. The elbow was pretty shot."
Regardless of what happened in 2008, Sheets will be looking to come off the Disabled List at this moment and make sure he contributes to the success of the Braves in the season.
